Memos from the Editor/President

This issue of our yet-to-be-named newsletter (That was a hint. There will likely be a contest to name the Chapter's Newsletter in the near future!) is dedicated to the coming election and shall serve as the official Call for Nominations for the Houston Chapter of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and as a membership report and verification.

Call for Nominations

Members in good standing (MIGS), that is, those who have paid their dues, can nominate any other member in good standing for one of five positions: President, Secretary, Treasurer, and two Director positions. Don't feel reluctant to nominate yourself if you want to serve the Chapter. For further information on the duties of the officers, please browse over to our Chapter's Constitution on our website (http://users.ev1.net/~slovacek/hfes/index.htm).

As stated in Issue 1 of this newsletter, we will be holding the Call for Nominations period open for the two weeks - now 05/30/99 through 06/12/99. After that time, we will assemble a ballot and mail it out to all MIGS.

 

Membership Report and Verification

During the 25 or so days of our present membership drive, we have increased our paid membership to over 30 members!! I've been asked by members of the Executive Council to verify our records to make sure that all people who have sent in their dues payment recently have gotten on the correct distribution list.

Below you will find two lists: Paid Members and Potential Members. Please take a moment to check to see if your name is on the Paid list if you have indeed paid. If you are on the wrong list, please let us know. If you find your name on the Potential Members list, you may still join the Chapter by sending in your dues payment ($10 per year, multiple year payments accepted) to the Secretary, George Khoury (make checks out to Cletis R. Booher). If your payment is received prior to 6/12/99, you may also nominate a candidate for office and you may also run for an office.

This list has been assembled from present and old Chapter distribution lists, membership records, Annual Meeting Committee rosters, and other sources. Some of you have expressed an interest in joining but we have not received your dues payment yet.

• If you feel that you are in this section in error, please notify us.
• If you are specifically not interested in being affiliated with the Chapter at all, please let us know so we can take you off of the distribution lists.
• If you don't respond at all, you will be put on a semi-annual membership drive distribution list.
